Advertisement and Public Relations both are the tools of the Promotion but both differ from each other. It is the presentation where the common message can be circulated everywhere in the world.
Advertisement refers to “the promotion of the product or services”. Advertisement is given by an identified company or firm or an individual.
Public relations mean maintaining relations with public. Public does not mean only customers, but it includes suppliers, shareholders, customers etc.
- Advertisement can reach a large market. For example any advertisement given on TV can reach in different corners of the country whereas Public relations are maintained personally and cannot be reached from one place to another.
- In Advertising the messages regarding the product or services are given publicly so there is always a proof for it whereas in Public relations the message is usually private.
- Advertisement always increases the cost of the product or service whereas Public relations do not cost much.
- Customer feel more assured about quality and feel comfortable as sponsor claim benefits in Advertising whereas Public Relations are based upon the relationships and trust more rather than evidence.
- The cost of the advertisement is passed on to the customer whereas Public Relations do not charge any price.
- Advertisement can confuse rather than help as it also encourages the sale of inferior products whereas Public Relations helps in building awareness, stimulating sales force a d building credibility.
- Advertisement increases the rate of impulsive buying by showing the new product more and more to attract the customer and induces the customer to purchase the product whereas Public Relations help in lowering the promotion cost.
- Some Advertisements distort relationship between employer-employee, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law etc.
- Public Relations can be improved with public with the help of News, Speeches, and Events etc.
